Dr. Lawrence T. Pileggi Honored for Semiconductor Research
RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. & PHOENIX--(BUSINESS WIRE via COLLEGIATE
PRESSWIRE)--Sept. 26, 2000--The Semiconductor Research Corporation (SRC) presented Dr. Lawrence T. Pileggi with the Technical Excellence Award for his key contributions to the semiconductor industry and SRC member organizations.
Dr. Pileggi is a professor of Electrical Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University (CMU). He won the award for his research in simplified inductance and capacitance extraction algorithms. His work is a major contribution to the important extraction area, both building on past work and making breakthroughs for the future.
''We are very pleased to extend this award to Dr. Pileggi,'' said Larry Sumney, president and CEO of the SRC. ''His type of creative innovation is just one of the many advantages the SRC provides to its member organizations and universities.''
The Technical Excellence Award was created by the SRC in 1991 to recognize the efforts of those researchers who bring exceptional value to SRC member organizations. The goal is to offer incentives that will greatly enhance the productivity and competitiveness of the semiconductor industry in North America. To date, 52 individuals encompassing 16 research efforts have been recognized.
Dr. Pileggi has taught circuit-level analysis and design automation for electronics systems at CMU since 1996. His research is in high-performance integrated circuits (IC) technologies and algorithms that facilitate the extraction of electrical interconnected parameters. He received his bachelor`s and master`s degrees from the University of Pittsburgh in 1983, and his Ph. D. in 1989 from CMU. In addition to his work at CMU, Dr. Pileggi is a technical advisor for Monterey Design Systems, an IC design company based in Sunnyvale,
Calif.
SRC, based in Research Triangle Park, N.C., with an office in San Jose, Calif., is the largest continuous industry-driven university research program in the U.S. The SRC plans and manages a program of basic and applied research carried out principally in North American universities on behalf of SRC participating companies. Currently the SRC is sponsoring research programs at 67 universities located in the U.S. and Canada. Since 1982, SRC has funded more than $428 million in long-term semiconductor research contracts.
