A new survey reveals that 93 percent of Americans would be willing to change their lawn and garden activities if it would make a difference in the environment.  This month, industry experts including the Garden Writers Association, the National Gardening Association, and the Scotts Miracle-Gro Company gathered to discuss the publics current attitudes and behaviors regarding lawns, gardens and the environment.  Panelist Terrill Nell, agronomist and chairman of the University of Florida Environmental Horticulture Department:

Gardeners can have beautiful lawns and landscapes while protecting our environment.  Gardeners should sweep any fertilizer from pavements onto lawns and gardens.  Spot treatment with a ready-to-use product works well for small, localized pest problems and balances pest control while protecting our environment.

Healthy lawns and gardens provide practical and environmental benefits all season long.  Not only are they enjoyable, but they help prevent erosion and runoff.  They also act as a natural filter for the environment.
