SpinRecords.com to Donate all Proceeds from the Sales of Randi Driscoll`s "What Matters" to Matthew Shepard Foundation

(CPWIRE) SAN DIEGO CA -- October 12, 1999 -- Wayne Irving, president and CEO of SpinRecords.com, announced the online music label will sell Randi Driscoll`s CD single, ''What Matters,'' for five dollars with 100 percent of the proceeds going to the Matthew Shepard Foundation and other anti-hate crime charities. The sale of ''What Matters,'' on SpinRecords.com begins today.

One year ago today, Matthew Shepard, a 21-year-old University of Wyoming student died as a result of a brutal beating from which he never recovered. His attackers killed him merely because of his sexual orientation. Shepard`s violent death sent shock waves throughout the nation and the brutal murder garnered media attention from around the world.

Accomplished acoustic musician and SpinRecords.com artist Randi Driscoll wrote the song ''What Matters'' after learning the motives behind Shepard`s attackers. Originally, Driscoll intended to send the piece to Shepard’s family as gesture of condolence, yet after playing ''What Matters'' live the first time she was stunned by the reaction of her audience.

''Men and women of all ages came up to me in tears and expressed how they had been so moved by what happened to Matthew,'' said Driscoll. ''A mother of two small children reached for my hand and cried. A man came up to me and spoke through his tears. Women clutched one another, crying.'' Driscoll has since raised thousands of dollars for anti-hate crime organizations, such as the Matthew Shepard Foundation, through sales of the single.

''We are honored to have such a generous and talented artist as Randi Driscoll on SpinRecords.com,'' said Irving. ''Music is one of the most powerful mediums to deliver a message, and we welcome the opportunity to support Randi`s efforts in raising public awareness about eliminating hate crimes.''

The Shepard family created the Matthew Shepard Foundation to help people abandon ignorance, prejudices and hate. The Foundation is dedicated to the principle of helping people move beyond tolerance to embrace diversity. Driscoll has worked closely with the Foundation to help them raise awareness and money to promote these principles.
