XML Technology Pioneer Donates Tamino Database to UCSD for Nonprofit Research Projects, Training
SAN RAMON, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE via COLLEGIATE PRESSWIRE)--Dec. 5, 2000--Software AG Inc. and the San Diego Supercomputer Center (SDSC), an organized research unit of the University of California, San Diego, have partnered to explore innovative applications of XML technology in nonprofit research projects.
XML (Extensible Markup Language) offers organizations the ability to retrieve and store various types of data from diverse sources, including the Internet, and to facilitate high-volume data transactions among users.
Software AG will donate its Tamino(TM) native XML database to support various SDSC research projects. SDSC`s Data Intensive Computing Environments group (DICE), is currently involved with collaborations with the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA), the National Historical Publications and Records Commission (NHPRC) and the California Digital Library (CDL). XML database tools are used to store, integrate and exchange XML data throughout the activities with these and other organizations.
