Worldsurface.com launches Global Reporter Competition

New York, NY--(COLLEGIATE PRESSWIRE)--May 5, 2000--Worldsurface.com today announced the launch of a ‘Global Reporter’ competition with the goal of identifying the very best of the next generation of online journalists for the independent traveling community.

The competition, which will run for 100 days and is housed at the prelaunch site www.worldsurface.com, is targeted at student travelers from the US, the UK, Canada and Australia.

To enter, students and other independent travelers are invited to submit a page of an ‘on the road’ travel diary for review by other members of the traveling community.

10 winners will be given specific assignments, airline tickets to selected global destinations and monies to fund their adventures, up to 40 additional travelers will be offered shorter assignments.

Simon North one of the founders of worldsurface.com explained, “we’re doing this in response to all the other internet sites out there that look like they’re for independent travelers but are really just travel agencies selling expensive packaged tours.

Independent travel is not about that, its not about a package or a tour or traveling the same route as everybody else. Its about adventure, its about exploring, its about discovering new things and telling other travelers what you’ve found.

And that’s what we want worldsurface.com to be, a real home for independent travel and independent travelers on the internet. We want to bring travelers together to share stories, share experiences, share discoveries and reclaim the spirit of independent travel.

And that’s the philosophy behind the Global Reporter competition, we want the traveling community to choose who should be working for us because at the end of the day its really the traveling community we’re all working for.

Its an opportunity for someone who loves travel to travel, for someone who wants to be involved in online journalism to be involved in online journalism and for someone who wants to be involved in an internet start up to get involved.”

www.worldsurface.com will formally launch later this year, further details will be released nearer the time.
