“Three Cheers! Cheer Pleasure!” - New York Daily News

UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif.--(COLLEGIATE PRESSWIRE)--Jan. 19, 2001--Bring It On, the smart and sassy comedy that had audiences cheering last summer, debuts on both VHS rental and DVD on February 13, 2001 from Universal Studios Home Video. The $70 million boxoffice hit, stars Kirsten Dunst, Jesse Bradford, Gabrielle Union, Eliza Dushku and a host of today`s hottest rising young talent, including the feature film debut of the chart-topping R&B; female group, Blaque. The Collector`s Edition DVD is priced at $26.98 suggested retail.

Opening #1 at the box office, Bring It On was the surprise hit of the summer, eliciting rousing critical acclaim nationwide, as a fun-filled, yet witty teen flick with a playful attitude. Even the venerable Wall Street Journal cheered: ''Hip-Hop-Hooray! Teen angst with a brain.''

DVD INCLUDES AMUSING “DID YOU KNOW THAT” BONUS FOR FANS WHO CAN’T GET ENOUGH ABOUT BRING IT ON

The Bring it On DVD features a brand-new, industry first: “Did You Know That? Universal’s Animated Anecdotes” --a proprietary element exclusive to Universal Studios Home Video. As the feature plays, pop-up windows appear in various positions on the screen in assorted colors presenting more than 270 interesting, hilarious and sometimes unbelievable facts about the cast, the crew, production of the film and the sport of competitive cheerleading.

Additional DVD bonus material includes:

* Feature commentary with Director Peyton Reed

* Universal Studios Home Video’s “Spotlight on Location”

* Ten deleted scenes with introductions by Director Peyton Reed

* Three extended scenes with introductions by Director Peyton Reed

* Never-Before-Seen Home Movies of the Car Wash Scene--home movie footage shot by Director Peyton Reed during production and re-edited to the Rufus King song, “You’re Just What I Need.”

* “As If” music video by Blaque

* DVD-ROM Features including: screensaver, production information, and a “Cheer Quiz”

* Theatrical Trailer, Production Notes, Cast Bios and Recommendations

A rousing comedy in the tradition of American Pie and Road Trip, Bring It On is about two rival cheerleading squads from completely different neighborhoods, the Toros and the Clovers, who find themselves in a face-off to the finish for the national cheerleading competition crown. This hilarious yet warm-hearted look at fear and loathing in the cheerleading arena was directed by Peyton Reed (Comedy Central’s Upright Citizen’s Brigade) from an original screenplay by Jessica Bendinger.

Kirsten Dunst (The Virgin Suicides, Drop Dead Gorgeous, Dick, Interview with the Vampire) stars as Torrance, the effervescent and eternally optimistic captain of the Toros. Gabrielle Union (She’s All That) is Isis, the driven and dedicated captain of their cheerleading competition rivals, the Clovers. Eliza Dushku (the WB’s Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel) stars as Missy, a transfer student whose gymnastic talents and tart tongue spice up the Toros. Jesse Bradford (A Soldier’s Daughter Never Cries, King of the Hill) appears as Missy’s cynical, Clash-loving brother Cliff, and improv comedian Ian Roberts is cheer choreographer Sparky Polastri, a Bob Fosse wannabe with a dubious reputation and serious delusions of grandeur.

The cast also includes Clare Kramer, Nicole Bilderback (Can’t Hardly Wait), Tsianina Joelson (MTV’s The Daily Burn), Rini Bell (Road Trip), Nathan West (Mighty Ducks 2), Huntley Ritter (Redemption High) and making their acting debuts, Natina Reed, Brandi Williams and Shamari Fears from the pop recording group, Blaque.

Synopsis

The Toro cheerleading squad from Rancho Carne High School in San Diego has got spirit, spunk, sass and a killer routine that’s sure to land them the national championship trophy for the sixth year in a row. But for newly elected team captain Torrance Shipman, the Toro’s road to total cheer glory takes a shady turn when she discovers that their perfectly choreographed routines were, in fact, stolen from the Clovers, a hip-hop squad from East Compton, by the Toro’s former captain.

While the Toros scramble to come up with a new routine, the Clovers, led by squad captain Isis, have their own problems-coming up with enough money to cover their travel expenses to the championships. With time running out and the pressure mounting, both captains drive their squads to the point of exhaustion: Torrance, hell-bent on saving the Toro’s reputation, and Isis, more determined than ever to see that the Clovers finally get the recognition that they deserve. But only one team can bring the title home, so may the best moves win!
