What You Need to Know Before Driving to Mexico

FLAGSTAFF, AZ--(COLLEGIATE PRESSWIRE)--Feb 21, 2001--Are you planning a trip to Mexico? Thousands of students travel to Mexico each year, lured by the favorable Peso exchange rate, sunny beaches, and the many cultural experiences available there.

Whether you will be in Mexico for just a few days, or for a longer period, it is important to plan well ahead prior to leaving home so that you don`t have any unexpected ``glitches`` at the Mexican border and the interior of Mexico.

Documents Needed to Cross the Border

Prior to crossing the border you should have the following documents in place:

1. Original Birth Certificate, or a certified copy.
2. Notarized copy of Vehicle Title.
3. Letter of Authorization from Leinholder or Lease Company (if applicable).
4. Tourist Cards-available from the Mexican Embassy, Consulate, or right at the border.
5. A credit card.
6. Mexican Auto Insurance.

Mexican Insurance can be purchased and printed directly online at www.mexpro.com or via fax by calling 1-888-467-4639.

These documents will allow you to validate your Tourist Card and import your vehicle into Mexico.

Insuring your Vehicle in Mexico

Most US insurance policies do not provide any coverage whatsoever in Mexico. Therefore, it is imperative that you purchase insurance for Mexico from an authorized, admitted Mexican insurer. You’ve invested a lot of money in your vehicle; in the event of a collision or theft loss, you’ll want to be sure that the underwriter has the financial capacity to pay your claim.

Equally important are Legal Aid and Liability Coverage recognized in Mexico. If you are involved in an accident, these coverages will help you through the Mexican judicial process.

With the proper documentation and insurance in place, you are on your way to exploring the wonders of Mexico!

Mexican Insurance can be purchased and printed directly online at www.mexpro.com or via fax by calling 1-888-467-4639.

Jim Labelle, CIC is president of Mexico Insurance Professionals, a subsidiary of International Insurance Group, Inc. Mexico Insurance Professionals insures thousands of visitors to Mexico each year. They can be reached at 1-888-467-4639 or at their website, www.mexpro.com. Policies can be purchased and printed directly from the website.
