Innovative Accessory Lets Users Watch TV, Video, or Play Nintendo(R), Sega(R), Dreamcast(TM) and PlayStation 2(R) Video Games on VGA/LCD Monitors Without Turning on Their Computers

MILPITAS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE via COLLEGIATE PRESSWIRE)--Jul 23, 2001--AVerMedia(R) Technologies, Inc., the leading provider of computer-to-TV conversion technology, today announced the AVerTV Box, an innovative and highly versatile new external TV tuner that lets users watch TV, video, or play the latest Nintendo, Sega, Dreamcast and PlayStation 2 video games on VGA or LCD monitors, without any need to turn on their computers.

The AVerTV Box is an easy-to-use, plug & play accessory that effectively transforms any PC, Mac or LCD VGA-compatible monitor into a multimedia entertainment system. It enables users to easily switch between TV, video or PC displays, includes a fully functional infrared remote control, and features 3D Stereo Surround Sound technology that essentially provides users with a movie theatre-like experience right in the comfort of their own home, office or college dorm room.

Perhaps the most impressive feature offered by the AVerTV Box, is its ability to support full screen or a one-quarter picture-in picture screen window at resolutions of up to 800(H) x 600(V) on PCs or 832(H) x 624(V) on Macs, and to accommodate refresh rate of 50 - 75 Hz, as this enables users to work on the computer and enjoy the excitement of the big game at the same time. In addition, the feature-packed AVerTV Box includes Multi-lingual On-Screen Display (OSD) functionality and sleep timer functions, and its compact size and two-way (vertical and horizontal) positioning controls make it ideal for use in tight-fitting locations, such as the cramped quarters typically found in college or university housing.

''Not only do users have the freedom to watch TV, video, or play their favorite video games on VGA or LCD monitors, but now they can do it without even having turn on their computer!'' said Kathy Shih, Marketing Manager for AVerMedia. ''Easy to install and a snap to use, it`s particularly well-suited for use by college students and home office users where space is such an issue.''

The AVerTV Box supports up to 181 channels, offers a fine-tuning function, and has the ability to auto-scan both air and cable TV channels. It also includes controls for brightness, contrast, tint, color, and sharpness, and can provide output to TVs, VCRs, and video capture cards. Available in both NTSC and PAL-compatible versions, the AVerTV Box measures just 9.45''(H) x 4.06''(W) x 2.15''(H) and weighs just a shade over 1 pound.

The AVerTV Box sells for a suggested retail price of $159.99, and is available through prominent national distributors and resellers. System requirements include a PC with a VGA or LCD monitor, a Mac with any Mac monitor with VGA input, or any Mac system with VGA output. The AVerTV Box is shipped as a complete package that includes the remote control unit, power adapter, VGA cable, two-in-one audio cable, owner`s manual, and two batteries. A Mac monitor connector is also available as an option.
