The FDA has approved Cipro(R) X-R (Ciprofloxacin extended-release tablets)* 1000 milligrams, a new dosage strength of the once-daily form of Cipro X-R, for the treatment of complicated Urinary Tract Infections, or U-T-I-s, which may include certain kidney infections.  The new dose of Cipro X-R can be taken just once daily for 7 to 14 days. According to Dr. David Talan of the School of Medicine at UCLA:

"This approval is good news, as the once-a-day convenience of Cipro X-R may contribute to increased compliance among patients and help reduce the risk of recurrent UTIs.  By combining once-a-day dosing with excellent results, Cipro X-R may be recommended as a convenient treatment option for complicated UTIs."

U-T-Is are a serious health problem that are caused by bacteria and account for millions of physician visits each year.  Tell your physician about any medications you may be taking.  Treatment with Cipro X-R may result in certain side effects which are generally mild, including, nausea, diarrhea, headache, dyspepsia, dizziness, and yeast infection (vaginal moniliasis)*.  Prescribing information for Cipro X-R is at w-w-w-dot-c-i-p-r-o-x-r-dot.com.
