Suggested anchor lead-in: Now that youve taken a break over Labor Day weekend, its time to put your retirement savings back to work.  Use today, National 401(k) Day, to take control of your retirement planning.  Chris Allen has more.

Company-sponsored retirement plans, such as 401(k)s, are proven to be the easiest and most effective in saving for retirement.  However, a recent survey from the Transamerica Center for Retirement studies found that seven out of ten 401(k) participants would like employers to offer more access to educational and advice tools.  Center expert Catherine Collinson:

Find out about your companys retirement plan and educational resources.  Recently, retirement providers have enhanced their educational offerings with on-line tools.  If your companys plan does not offer these tools, talk to your employer about adding them. Using these tools, calculate your savings goal and set forth a plan to achieve it.  Take into account your risk tolerance and time to retirement.  If your company doesnt offer a retirement plan, ask for one. Get your coworkers involved. Lobby for change, and better your chances of securing the savings plan and the retirement you want.
