During hurricane season, those living in coastal areas are advised to be prepared.  Taking action before a hurricane strikes can reduce the effects of a potential disaster.  Some items that are important to have are bottled water, first aid supplies, flashlights, portable radios, clocks and cameras.   According to Brian Kimberlin of Panasonic, it is critical to have a supply of fresh batteries:

Batteries are one of the most important items and easiest to forget in an emergency. To be prepared for a disaster, regularly check flashlights, clocks, radios and cameras to make sure they work properly and contain fresh batteries.  Its always a good idea to have extra batteries on hand. You never know how important this is until you need them.

Kimberlin advises using a long-lasting battery like Panasonics Alkaline For Digital Electronics - and dont forget to power up digital cameras with proper batteries to document hurricane damage.
