While women are more in tune with their bodies and their health than ever before, many are still ashamed and uninformed, according to a new Harris survey of American women conducted for the Association of Reproductive Health Professionals.  Nearly three in four surveyed believe that the vagina is still a shocking topic and more than a third are uncomfortable having any verbal discussion regarding their vaginas.  Womens health advocate and nurse practitioner, Sandy Worthington:

Social stigma and not having enough information may prevent women from discussing and taking an active role in their vaginal health.  For example, most women are not aware that the vagina is an optimal site for the administration of medications and there are several Food & Drug Administration approved medications, including a contraceptive ring that are used in this way. The more we know about our bodies, the more options become available to us.
