From Collegiate Presswire's RadioWire (https://www.cpwire.com/radio): Radio Pharmacy organizations in the U.S. and Canada are assembling in Washington to speak out against prescription drug importation from Canadian internet pharmacies. American pharmacists believe that allowing importation of medicines disregards the necessary regulatory controls that ensure patient safety. Michelle Fontaine is Vice President for the Coalition of Manitoba Pharmacy: "Importation of medications by internet pharmacies in Canada for trans-shipment into the United States is increasing exponentially theres a 300 percent increase in purchases from Bulgaria and 196 percent increase in purchases from Pakistan. These drugs arent evaluated for safety by Health Canada and theyre not F-D-A approved and theyre not F-D-A regulated theyre not safe, we dont know what they are and thats a serious concern for your patients." Meanwhile, Canadian pharmacists are concerned that a massive importation program would cause drug shortages and price increases north of the border. Congress is expected to vote on the matter shortly.
