U.S. Postal Service Readies for the Holidays

Think your holiday is hectic?  The U.S. Postal Service anticipates that it will handle more than 20 billion pieces of holiday mail this year between Thanksgiving and Christmas Day.  The busiest mailing day is expected to be Monday, December 15th, with an estimated 280 million stamps being cancelled on cards and letters that day - nearly three times its daily average during the rest of the year.  Then, the biggest delivery day is predicted just two days later on Wednesday, December 17th.  Francia Smith, consumer advocate for the U.S. Postal Service, has this holiday mailing advice:

"We are encouraging folks to go to USPS-dot-com and use our new service called 'click and ship.'  You don't have to go to the post office, you can create your mailing labels and pay for postage online - that's all printed out, put it on your package, put out for your carrier or drop it in a collection box."

Smith says the Postal Service does deliver Express Mail on Christmas Day and that many carriers wear Santa suits that day.  For more help, log on to u-s-p-s-dot- com.
