The U.S. Department of Homeland Security launches US-Visit Today its a new program designed to improve U.S. security.

Biometric technology is the latest weapon to help secure our countrys borders. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security starts a program today at 115 airports and 14 seaports using biometrics to identify foreign visitors to this country. The new program, US-Visit, will utilize inkless fingerprint scanning and digital photography to verify the identity of most foreign visitors travelling to the U.S. on a visa. Department of Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge says US-Visit will both enhance homeland security and facilitate legitimate travel by using improved technology and biometrics to expedite processing at our borders:

"This is a great step forward in preservation of our security. Yet, another protective measure that better secures our citizens, better speeds the process for visitors and further helps us preserve a country that has, must and always will be safe and free."

The program has been in testing at Atlantas Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport since November 17th.
