Nextel Communications is launching its Direct Connect(R) walkie-talkie service to Canada, Mexico, Peru, Brazil and Argentina.  Customers will now be able to instantly connect with co-workers, employees, customers, friends, and family to and from these countries.  In addition, customers will be able to access data services such as two-way messaging, wireless web and Blackberry email.  Drew Caplan is Nextel's Vice President of National Network Services:

With more than 90 percent of Nextels customers currently using Nationwide Direct Connect, international Direct Connect(R) walkie-talkie service is especially appealing to customers who conduct cross-border business and critical regions, such as Canada, the U.S.s largest trading partner, and in industries such as transportation, financial services and manufacturing. Its also of particular interest to our Spanish speaking subscribers with ties to Latin America.

Nextel is the only U.S. wireless provider to offer cross-border walkie-talkie service.
