From Collegiate Presswire's RadioWire (https://www.cpwire.com/radio): Health Americas criminal justice system relies too heavily on incarceration and needs to consider other, more effective alternatives. Thats the conclusion of a new report from a special American Bar Association commission charged with reviewing the "inadequacies, and the injustices in our prison and correctional systems" identified by U.S. Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy. A-B-A President Dennis Archer: "For more than 20 years, weve gotten tougher on crime. Now we need to get smarter. We can no longer sit by as more and more people, particularly in minority communities, are sent away for longer and longer periods of time while we make it more and more difficult for them to return to society after they serve their time. The system is broken. We need to fix it." Recommendations to fix the system will be made to the A-B-A House of Delegates for adoption as policy at its annual meeting in August. There are currently more than two point one million Americans serving time in jail thats the highest prison population in the world.
