The Federal government's new dietary guidelines were released today, and for the first time, the dietary guidelines will specifically recommend that Americans eat at least three servings of whole grain foods every day. Whole grains help prevent disease and help you manage your weight. It's too bad that nine out of 10 Americans are not getting enough whole grain, but food company General Mills hopes to change that. General Mills announced that all of its Big G cereals are being made with whole grain. It's the first and only leading food company to do so. Harvard University researcher Doctor Meir Stampfer, who's been studying the positive effects of whole grain for 20 years:

"This change makes it easier for Americans to find whole grain products with greater nutritional value. In the long term this could lead to a healthier America."

Can you get kids to follow the new guidelines? Breakfast cereals such as Cheerios, Wheaties, Trix, and Lucky Charms are the number one source of whole grains for kids ages two to 18.
