GNC is a proud sponsor of the 17th Annual National College Newspaper Convention (NCNC) this weekend at the Holiday Inn Golden Gateway in San Francisco.
PITTSBURGH--(COLLEGIATE PRESSWIRE)--Feb 22, 2001--“GNC is delighted to be teaming up with the National Scholastic Press Association and the Associated Collegiate Press to highlight the importance of health and nutrition during the college years,” said Roberta Gaffga, GNC’s Vice President of Public Relations and Communications. “At this year’s convention, GNC will be launching an innovative program that provides tools to help college newspaper editors educate their student body about health issues unique to college students.”
In addition to a booth display at the convention, GNC will host two educational sessions on Saturday, February 24:
9 a.m., Crystal Room - “GNC: Proven Ways to Stay Fit.” Dr. Susan Kleiner, a leading authority on eating for strength, will be speaking to students about their special health needs. She will discuss the topic of students not always having the time and resources to take care of themselves, and eat properly. Fitness trainer and competitor, Jenny Lynn, will discuss the increase in popularity of weight lifting, particularly during the college years, and the importance of proper lifting.
1:30 p.m., Oregon/Nevada Room - “Surviving Final Exams: When Staying Alert Is The Challenge .” Dr. Erik Viirre, Ph.D., University of California San Diego. The first rule of college is that late night, or all night, study sessions are inevitable, and many students rely on caffeine and over-the-counter stimulants to make it through midterms and finals. The problem is that late night studying can leave even the healthiest college student drained of the energy needed to survive “the morning after,” when they actually have to take the exams. In this session, Dr. Viirre will explore steps students can take to maximize energy.
As part of the GNC: Enhancing the Student Body program, GNC will supply 5,000 temporary Gold Cards to each participating college and university for distribution at their campuses. Each Gold Card will provide a one-time 20% discount at any GNC store. GNC will also be providing editors with a series of articles that address health issues in the college years. For those who attend the educational sessions, GNC will be giving away gym bags filled with wellness products, including samples of Women’s Ultra Mega™ and Men’s Mega™ multivitamins. Nearly 200 colleges and universities, and over 400 students are expected to attend this year’s convention.
The NCNC is the largest gathering of college newspaper journalists in the U.S., and it has been held in various California cities and in Seattle. At the convention, student journalists and advisors have the opportunity to network and attend sessions presented by experienced professionals. Seminars cover all aspects of newspaper production and online publishing.
