NEW YORK--(COLLEGIATE PRESSWIRE)--Apr 2, 2002--On Saturday, April 27th, 24 anxious teams of student entrepreneurs from across the country will battle it out for cash, bragging rights, and an offer of funding for the grand prize winner’s business by a venture capital firm in the Carrot Capital Business Plan Challenge (“Challenge”).

“The Challenge is living proof that entrepreneurship continues to thrive on America’s college campuses,” exclaims David Geliebter, Managing Partner of Carrot Capital, principal sponsor of the competition. “We received a number of exceptional business plans from the over 450 registered teams, which made it very tough to narrow the field.”

''The Carrot Capital program is taking a very long-sighted approach to business by helping encourage today`s students to articulate their ideas. The world is full of great ideas that never make it anywhere because they are never given the chance to develop. I wish a program like this would have been around when I was in school,'' says Gary Moulton, CEO of Glyphics Communications and one of 135 qualifying judges that generously volunteered their time to help with the competition.

Finalist teams will present their business plans to a celebrated panel of finalist judges made up of distinguished business and thought leaders, including Udayan Gupta, Wall Street Journal reporter and author of the best seller Done Deals; John Bello, President & CEO of South Beach Beverages (SOBE); Santanu Das, President, CEO & Chairman of TranSwitch Corporation (Nasdaq: TXCC); Michael Schall, CEO of The B. Manischewitz Company; Dan Weinfurter, CEO of Parson Group; Carol Turchin, serial entrepreneur and Kendall Crolius, Vice President, Marketing of Forbes.

In addition to $100,000 in cash prizes and funding for the grand prize winner, one lucky person will be crowned Forbes Future Capitalist at a gala dinner and awards ceremony to be held that evening, featuring Carl Quintanilla, co-anchor CNBC’s Wake Up Call, as the special Master of Ceremonies. If all that wasn’t enough, the winning team will take part in the “market close ceremony” at the Nasdaq MarketSite in Times Square.
