Online Publishing Trends in Campus Newspaper Market Revealed by Hundreds of Respondents

BOSTON--(COLLEGIATE PRESSWIRE)--Nov 3, 2003--College Publisher, the largest network of online campus publications, today announced key findings from its fourth annual 2003-04 U.S. College Newspaper Survey. The research study, conducted in Fall 2003, addresses a wide range of issues affecting online publishing at campus newspapers and journalism programs and compiles the results from college newspaper advisors, editors, webmasters and business managers.

Student newspapers are recognized as the most influential and widely read media channel on college campuses. Currently, more than 500 campus newspapers publish online editions. The 2003-04 U.S. College Newspaper Survey aims to provide useful insights and industry knowledge to enable campus newspapers to make informed decisions regarding online publishing. Key findings from the survey include:

* 73% of respondents agree, ''College students are sophisticated and demanding consumers of online news'';

* 74% of respondents say a strengthened online presence is important for their newspaper;

* 57% of campus newspapers sell online advertising, an increase that can be attributed to an advertising market on the rebound;

* 56% or respondents believe that a registered email subscriber base is important to build sustainable online revenues, showing the increasing value of reader information in the campus media market;

The 2003-04 College Newspaper Survey is intended to be a comprehensive and useful resource for the collegiate publishing market. Those interested in obtaining a summary of the study may visit College Publisher at the Dallas ACP/CMA National Media Convention in November or contact College Publisher.
