BACKGROUND:
In 2002, 800 cities participated in a movement to end violence against women and girls called V-Day, which grew out of Eve Ensler`s award-winning play, The Vagina Monologues. ''Until the Violence Stops'' shows V-Day`s impact in five communities internationally, while exposing the pervasive and cultural forms of violence that women experience all over the world. The documentary recently made its world premiere at the 2004 Sundance Film Festival.

One in three women around the world is a victim of violence at some point in her life. In February, Lifetime Television once again will confront this terrible problem with its Emmy Award-winning public awareness and advocacy campaign, ''Our Lifetime Commitment: Stop Violence Against Women.'' The campaign brings together non-profit organizations, bipartisan political leaders, celebrities and corporations, in a massive, bilingual, national advocacy initiative to unite women and men in efforts to stop the violence against women and girls, once and for all.

''Our Lifetime Commitment: Stop Violence Against Women'' will include on-air programming, online content and outreach around the country to raise awareness of various forms of violence, such as domestic violence, sexual assault and stalking, and to offer important information and resources on how women and men can help make a difference in their own lives, families and communities. This initiative is informed by the leading anti-violence organizations, including V-Day, with whom Lifetime is honored to partner.
