As the holidays approach, home chefs are going through their recipe files and pulling out their best.  Sure to be included is pie, a holiday dessert favorite.  Pies are easy to make, even for the inexperienced, as long as a few things are kept in mind.  Brenda Dempsy from Crisco:

"One thing is to make sure that the shortening is chilled.  It will make the pastry easier to work with, and will give you a flakier and more tender crust.  You can also prepare your crust ahead of time - it keeps for about three days in the fridge and three months in the freezer."

She also suggests chilling the dough for about an hour before rolling to help prevent sticking.  Amateur chefs can enter their favorite pie recipes in Crisco's All American Pie Contest for a chance to win a trip to the Great American Pie Festival in Florida, and compete for five thousand dollars and the national pie making championship.  For more details and to enter, go to w-w-w-dot-crisco-dot-com.
