The holiday shopping season is under way, with consumers searching for those perfect presents. And while most shoppers will hit toy, book and department stores to find those gifts, many will also be heading to non-traditional destinations, including their local hardware store, to buy unique yet practical gifts. Ace hardwares home improvement expert Lou Manfredini:

"So many more folks today, especially women, participate in home improvement activities. You know, this trend has prompted people to buy tools and other hardware products and gadgets as gifts that cater to do-it-yourself projects and hobbies. Hot hardware items this year will be cordless power tools with multiple functions, combination electronic laser level stud finders, and the latest in gas grills and gardening accessories."

And like traditional shopping meccas, Ace and other specialty retailers will hold sales the day after Thanksgiving to attract shoppers scouting for the best bargains.
