Some 36 million Americans will travel 50 miles or more from their homes this Thanksgiving holiday, up more than 2 percent from last year, according to AAA. About 86 percent of them - roughly 31 million people - will travel by car. Thats up two and a half percent from last Thanksgiving. Those drivers will find that average gas prices have fallen about a quarter since the last big holiday-Labor Day. AAA Travel Vice President Sandra Hughes:
"If youre driving, make sure your car is in safe condition. If youre flying, just make sure to allow a lot of extra time for parking the car and getting through the security. Allowing plenty of time and making sure your trip is safe are the two most important things."
The Wednesday before Thanksgiving and the Sunday after will be two of the busiest days all year at airports as four-point-seven- million Americans, up almost one percent, fly this holiday. Gathering with family remains a top reason to travel with 56 percent of holiday travelers planning to stay with friends or relatives.
