The Nations leading health officials are saying this flu season could be more serious and deadly than the past two years. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the National Foundation for Infectious Diseases are advising everyone who has not been immunized to get a flu shot now. This is especially important for high-risk groups since they are more likely to develop serious complications. Doctor William Schaffner of the National Foundation for Infectious Diseases:

"The flu has hit early this year in as many as 40 states. So, get your flu shot now, especially if you're at high risk of influenza complications, which can lead to hospitalization and for some even death."

Flu can cause serious complications, such as pneumonia, stroke, heart attack and even death. Some 36-thousand die each year from flu.
