The holidays are synonymous with shopping, cooking, and entertaining, but often, aches and pains accompany those fun holiday activities.
'Tis the season for joy and cheer, but a significant number of people combat aches and pains directly related to the holiday season. Advil's "Pain-Free Holiday" study revealed that almost half of Americans report headaches from sitting in traffic, 36 percent from dealing with family members. Back aches resulted from washing dishes, cooking and wearing high heels. Doctor Peter Bruno, attending physician at Lenox Hill Hospital has some advice:
"Combat common holiday aches and pains by getting plenty of rest - lack of sleep will predispose you to aches, pains and irritability. Keep up your muscle strength and pick up heavy objects with care to avoid back injuries. Watch your diet and minimize the intake of pure simple sugars, caffeine, nicotine and alcohol which can lead to headaches - treat headaches before they get started - they are harder to treat once they are full blown. If you're still plagued by holiday pain, use an over the counter pain reliever like Advil."
Luckily, many of these aches and pains are preventable, but should they occur, safe and effective treatment is available. For more information on how to combat the holiday aches and pains visit w-w-w-dot-advil-dot-com.
