A new survey by the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America found 86 percent of allergy sufferers feel insurance company restrictions resulting from newly available over-the-counter medications are not in the best interest of patients. Many report spending more on allergy medications this year as a result of higher co-pays or lack of coverage. Bill Mclin, Executive Director of the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America, explains:

"The stories were hearing from patients, and the results of the survey show that prescription restrictions by insurance companies are resulting in higher costs for patients and less physician involvement. This is leading to less effective treatment for many of the over 50 million Americans who suffer from allergies."

The survey also found 93 percent of allergy sufferers feel its important for a physician to diagnose and treat allergies, yet insurance companies are making this difficult and costly for patients. To share your story, log on to aafa-dot-org-slash-mystory.
