According to the Third Annual Instant Messaging Trends Survey from AOL, Instant Messaging has taken over as the communications vehicle of choice with many Americans sending as many, if not more, I-Ms than e-mails. The survey revealed that I-Ming on cell phones, parental rules for teens and rampant �away messaging" are popular habits among today�s online users. �Instant messaging is up 19 percent over last year, and has become a real part of every day life � and not just among teens. Professionals and grandparents alike now, are using I-M to stay in touch, share photos and just get more done every day.�
The survey also revealed that 58 percent of I-M users now use the service at work to communicate with colleagues, and one in three send text messages from their cell phones, a dramatic increase over 2004, when just 19 percent said used mobile text messaging.
