Free Software Plug-in Adds Buddy Icons to Your Email
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.--(COLLEGIATE PRESSWIRE)--Nov. 29, 2005--ICONIX, Inc., the trusted email identification company, today announced its free Uberfuze(sm) service. Uberfuze lets users link various on-line services such as Myspace, Blogger and Flickr into a unified and portable profile. Uberfuze also enables the Iconix eMail ID plug-in to display these profiles through buddy icons next to messages in the inbox.
Buddy Profiles Make it Easy to Share Online Identity with Friends
Users who register for the Uberfuze service at www.uberfuze.com can consolidate their online identities in one area, with direct links to blogs, photo albums and other online services. A portable version of the profile can be attached as an identity tag to email, websites and blogs.
"Until now, cross linking accounts at places like Myspace, Blogger, Live Journal, and Flickr has been very difficult to do. Uberfuze makes it easy and portable, you can even add RSS feeds to your profile," said Audian Paxson, director of product management at ICONIX. "Our profile page lets you link your on-line identities together, and the buddy icon and identity tag make it easy to share your profile with all your friends," continued Paxson. "A lot of social groups, like clubs, sports fans and even dating networks will have fun with this feature."
Users Easily Build Email Buddy Networks
Uberfuze users can create their own buddy icon that is displayed next to email messages they send. Users can choose from hundreds of icons readily available on the Uberfuze website or can create their own custom icon by uploading their own photo or graphic. "It's like having custom ringtones for your email," said Paxson. When recipients add friends to their trusted buddy network, these icons appear in the email inbox, similar to their IM lists, allowing them to quickly spot messages from friends and family. When users scroll over a buddy icon, a mini-version of the buddy's profile appears, and they can click on it to see the full profile.
Iconix eMail ID Makes Email Safer
In addition to buddy icons, the software plug-in also displays an icon next to messages that go through a two-step security check to verify the identity of the sender. "Before, when I would see a bunch of messages from a company like eBay, I wouldnt know which ones to open, so I'd just delete them all," said Catalina Palavecino, a student at San Jose State University. "Now, when I see the icon, I know which messages are okay to open."
The software plug-in currently works with Hotmail, MSN, Yahoo! Mail, and SBC Yahoo! Mail. Support for additional email clients and browsers such as Gmail and Comcast will be added soon. Users can register and download the software for free by going to the Uberfuze website at www.uberfuze.com.
