FRAMINGHAM, Mass--(BUSINESS WIRE via COLLEGIATE PRESSWIRE)--Jun 9, 2003--Perini Building Company, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Perini Corporation of Framingham, Mass. (AMEX:PCR), in joint venture with Manafort Brothers, Inc. of Plainville, Conn. and in association with ADD Inc, an architecture and interior design firm of Cambridge, Mass., has been selected as the design/builder of three new student residences at Eastern Connecticut State University in Willimantic.

Construction of the $50 million, phased design/build program will begin in June 2003. The first of the three buildings to be constructed, a freshman dormitory, will be built as a fast-track project and is slated to be completed in August 2004. The two remaining buildings, upper class residence halls with suites, will be built in accordance with plans and contract documents completed during the construction of the first phase of the project. The schedule requires these buildings to be completed to accommodate the start of the Fall 2005 semester.

The three residences will be located in the south portion of the Eastern Connecticut campus, near the J. Eugene Smith Library, the academic hub of the campus; Webb Hall, the University`s main classroom building; and the University`s planned new science building. The location and density of the construction program adds to the complexity of the work and will require additional effort on the part of the project team to avoid impacting students and interrupting ongoing campus activities.

''Building on an active campus is a challenge we`ve met many times over,'' says Sam Sabin, Sr. Vice President, Perini Building Company. ''We`re confident that, with the leadership of the University and the professional, collaborative spirit of our design/build team, we will be a positive presence on campus and our performance will exceed the expectations of the Eastern Connecticut community.''

''The master planning of the new buildings will help to better define major campus spaces such as the academic and residential quads,'' says Nancy Tinker, Director of Facilities, Eastern Connecticut State University. ''The new student residences will have a significant impact on our University, contributing to our vision to be a progressive, public liberal arts university.''

The building design, featuring gabled roof forms and brick and cast-stone facades, will complement the existing campus architecture. The planning, design and construction of the project will be overseen by the Connecticut Department of Public Works Facilities Management.
