A hit at last month`s Toronto International Film Festival, THE ASSASSINATION OF RICHARD NIXON is the feature debut of writer/director Niels Mueller and will open in New York and Los Angeles on Wednesday, December 29th and nationally in January.

Written by Mueller and Kevin Kennedy, and based on a prescient and bizarre true story, THE ASSASSINATION OF RICHARD NIXON focuses on Sam Bicke (Penn), a desperate ''everyman'' who, in 1974, was driven to hatch and execute a plan to assassinate the president. Sam is determined to have his share of the American Dream, but in a society worn down by political corruption and the Vietnam War, there is not much room left for dreamers. Sam`s world unravels as the Watergate scandal exposes culpability at the highest levels, as images of Nixon flood the airwaves. In the meantime, the finality of Bicke`s separation from his wife (Naomi Watts) and their two young children becomes inescapable, while his relationship with his boss (Jack Thompson) becomes toxic.
With this role, Penn proves that he is at the very peak of his career, delivering a quietly explosive performance unlike any other he has given. Though set in a divided America of thirty years ago, THE ASSASSINATION OF RICHARD NIXON, particularly its shattering d�nouement, achieves an eerie resonance in our equally disillusioned post-9/11 era.
THE ASSASSINATION OF RICHARD NIXON is an Anhelo production in association with Appian Way. Alfonso Cuaron and Jorge Vergara produce the film, with Alexander Payne, Leonardo Di Caprio, Jason Kliot, Joana Vicente, Arnaud Duteil, Avran Butch Kaplan, Kevin Kennedy, and Frida Torresblanco, serving as executive producers.
The film has not yet been rated by the MPAA and has a running time of 95 minutes.
