WHAT: The Hip-Hop Team Vote GOTV National Bus Tour, launched from Washington, DC this past Friday with 2 buses, one heading to the South and one heading to the Midwest hitting 26 cities in 33 days in 10 states, arrives in Cleveland today to the heart of the poorest section of the city, a city designated as having one of the largest impoverished populations in the United States. With the state of Ohio being one of the key states in the upcoming presidential election, this Get Out The Vote street rally will bring national attention to the issue of poverty and the need for this issue to be a priority for the presidential candidates. Over the last four years, the national poverty level has increased by 1.4 million people. The Hip-Hop Summit Action Network and its Hip-Hop Team Vote national campaign has been working across the state of Ohio in coalition with America Coming Together (ACT), local branches of the NAACP and the Urban League and with urban radio stations to increase youth voter registration to an unprecedented level. The purpose of the Hip-Hop Team Vote GOTV Bus Tour is to increase youth voter turnout on November 2nd.
