Rebroadcasts October 14 and November 1; College Students: Host a Screening at Your Campus

BOSTON--(COLLEGIATE PRESSWIRE)--Oct 5, 2004--On November 2, college students around the country will vote in the first wartime election since Vietnam. Not unlike the political climate of the 1960s, college students today are seriously debating America`s role in foreign countries. The war in Iraq has exposed deep divisions among Americans and cast a spotlight on the foreign policy positions of candidates George W. Bush and John F. Kerry.

In an effort to educate voters of all ages, the PBS series FRONTLINE presents a special, two-hour dual biography of the two men who hope to lead the nation for the next four years. Produced by veteran FRONTLINE producer Martin Smith and reported by Nicholas Lemann, author, political correspondent to The New Yorker, and dean of the Graduate School of Journalism at Columbia University, ''The Choice 2004'' will premiere on Tuesday, October 12, at 9 P.M. on PBS (check local listings). The film will be rebroadcast on Thursday, October 14, and Monday, November 1.

Culled from more than fifty interviews with the candidates` former classmates, families, friends, colleagues, and political adversaries, ''The Choice 2004'' takes a hard look at the character, experience, and worldviews of Bush and Kerry, and illuminates defining moments of their lives with rare archival footage - from their formative years at Yale and their experiences during the Vietnam War, to their first unsuccessful bids for office and their ultimate successes on the campaign trail.

''These two men couldn`t be more different. Bush leads from the gut, Kerry from the head. Bush is drawn to certainty, Kerry embraces complexity. Bush is ambitious, Kerry is more cautious and conservative,'' says producer Martin Smith.

FRONTLINE is looking for volunteers to help to educate their campus communities about the presidential candidates by hosting screening events around the national broadcasts of ''The Choice 2004.'' Please contact Jenna Lowe at [email protected] for a free event planning kit or for more information. As television`s premier public affairs series, FRONTLINE is the recognized leader in producing compelling and engaging documentaries that explore the stories and issues of our times. From foreign affairs to family matters, social issues to criminal justice, politics to the press, FRONTLINE goes beyond the superficial sound bite of the television newsmagazine to offer in-depth, intelligent, and objective investigations of contemporary life.
