Consumer Electronics Leader Gives Consumers The Chance To Be Official Torch Bearers In 2004 Olympic Torch Relay Events In New York, Los Angeles, St. Louis and Atlanta This June

Ridgefield Park, N.J.--(COLLEGIATE PRESSWIRE)--Feb 17, 2004--Samsung Electronics, the award-winning telecommunications leader and Olympic sponsor, is giving selected Americans the opportunity to be torchbearers in this summer`s most coveted and exciting event - the Athens 2004 Olympic Torch Relay - via the Samsung Olympic Torch Relay Contest. Twenty winners will earn the chance to run with the Olympic torch in one of four events being held in U.S. cities (Los Angeles, St. Louis, New York, and Atlanta) as the torch makes its way across the globe to Athens.

From February 9-29, consumers can enter the Samsung contest by visiting Samsung`s website at www.samsungusa.com/olympics and submitting an official form and essay. In addition to earning a spot carrying the torch for a 400-meter run, Samsung will also pay for the winners` travel to the city where their event is taking place. The event dates include: Los Angeles - June 16; St. Louis - June 17, Atlanta June 18; and New York June 19.

''Samsung is honored to be able to give Americans a once in a lifetime chance to proudly carry the Olympic torch as the world watches on,'' said Peter Weedfald, Senior Vice President of Strategic Marketing and New Media for Samsung Electronics North America. ''As a worldwide Olympic sponsor, we are glad that we are able to share the Olympic spirit this way and give something back to our loyal consumers here in the U.S.''

The contest is open to U.S. residents 14 years old and over (winners under 18 must be accompanied by a legal guardian), and entrants can only nominate themselves. Along with the official nomination form, nominators will be asked to submit an essay of up to 50 words explaining how the nominee meets the criteria of being an inspirational person who reflects the best in humanity. Athens 2004 invites nominees who are an inspiration in our everyday lives and deserve to unite the world by carrying the Olympic flame. Nominees should reflect the values of the Olympic Games such as people who unite their communities through sport, education or culture, or people who inspire others through: Participation, Celebration, Human Scale and/or Heritage.

Winners` names will be posted on www.samsungusa.com/olympics on April 15, 2004. All winners will be provided with an official uniform approved by the Olympic Committee.
