With the New Year almost upon us, tis the season to fulfill that resolution to volunteer!  More Americans than ever are doing just that, thanks, in part, to Internet recruitment sites where anyone can find a local opportunity searching by zip code.  More than 46-thousand volunteer referrals were generated by VolunteerMatch-dot-org last month, a new record.  Jason Willett, communications director for VolunteerMatch-dot-org:

No matter who you are or where you are in the United States, VolunteerMatch actually makes it easier then ever to find a great place to volunteer your time, and volunteer your energy.  For instance, this month Im personally volunteering with the Salvation Army and Ill be putting together food and donation boxes and I actually found this opportunity on VolunteerMatch-dot-org and it took just a few seconds of my time.  So anyone out there that wants to get involved, you can just fire up your computer, visit our web sight, its VolunteerMatch-dot-org, enter your zip code and youll see all the fun and rewarding ways you can give back to your local community right away.

Willett says that the non-profit organization made more referrals in 2004 than any year since its launch in 1998.
