Bluetooth Wireless Technology Helps Drivers Stay in Touch

More than 30 states are considering or have enacted legislation to ban drivers from using mobile phones in the car without a headset or other hands-free solution, and others are following suit.  However, drivers still want to communicate while on the road and are looking for ways to remain connected while complying with new hands-free laws.  Mike Foley is executive director of the Bluetooth Special Interest Group:

"Bluetooth Wireless Technology gives drivers two ways to comply with hands-free legislation: wireless headsets and hands-free automotive systems with the technology built-in. After a simple one-time set-up, Bluetooth capability is enabled and the user only needs to press a button to answer calls, leaving the phone in a bag, purse or pocket while hands and eyes are free to focus on the road.  With the simple built-in security features of the technology, drivers have the peace-of-mind that all wireless communications conducted in the car are secure and private."

As the trend in hands-free legislation continues to grow, Foley says, expect to see more wireless technology hit the road.
