$5,000 Prize, Internships to Be Awarded

NEW YORK--(COLLEGIATE PRESSWIRE)--Oct 24, 2002--Weber Shandwick is sponsoring the PRWeek Student of the Year competition for the fourth consecutive year.

The competition offers college students the opportunity to win a paid internship at Weber Shandwick and a cash prize of $5,000. Weber Shandwick currently has four employees working full time who participated in the competition over the last four years. These former Student of the Year participants work in Weber Shandwick offices in Chicago, Los Angeles, New York and Silicon Valley.

”The Student of the Year competition is a natural extension of Weber Shandwick’s efforts to offer opportunities to the best and brightest students who are looking to enter the public relations field,” said Andy Polansky, president, North America and chairman, global practice areas. “The competition creates a direct opportunity for students to gain an appreciation for what it is like to become part of our industry.”

The winner of the PRWeek Student of the Year competition will be a student who demonstrates “real-life” PR skills, demonstrating a creative approach to applying PR tactics to a given scenario. Participants are asked to develop a campaign for a real client that needs a new public relations strategy. This year’s competition features the challenge of developing a new public relations strategy for Ray-Ban sunglasses.

Five finalists will be flown to New York City in January 2003 to present to an esteemed panel of judges, and again in March to attend the PRWeek Awards ceremony and dinner.

Anyone who was a college student between November 1, 2001 and October 18, 2002 is eligible to enter. Entries are due by December 2, 2002. Details of the competition and entry forms are available at www.prweek.com/events/index.cfm. Weber Shandwick will also have a booth providing further information at the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) National Conference in San Francisco on November 18.
