We all know which foods give us a temporary boost; more than 65 percent of Americans say coffee, soda, candy or energy bars.  But these foods dont have the power of natural nutrients.  In fact, too many people are eating more of these empty foods and not enough meals with more nutritional power.   The U-S-D-A just released an updated food guide, which encourages us to eat more foods that are rich in essential vitamins, minerals and other nutrients.  But what are the best foods that provide more nutrients or more power on your plate?  Dayle Hayes, registered dietitian and Council for Womens Nutrition Solutions member:

Shop the perimeter of the grocery store, where you can find power foods, like fruits, vegetables, whole grains, low fat and nonfat dairy products, and lean beef.  These foods naturally provide more vitamins, minerals and other nutrients to fuel a healthier, active lifestyle.  And try to paint your plate with brighter colors.  Redder meats, like lean beef, has more nutrients per serving than many other proteins.
