Despite the war and a sluggish economy, consumer check card volume in the first six months of 2003 for Visa USA increased 20 percent compared to volume during the first half of 2002. More than 133-million Visa USA Check Card holders spent more than 134-billion dollars during a period when overall consumer spending grew by just four-point-eight percent. Visa�s Rosetta Jones:
�The incredible growth we�re seeing in the Visa Check Card is about consumers finding the product an essential part of their wallet. It�s one that they use because it�s safe and convenient, and really something they use instead of cash and checks.�
Jones also added that Visa USA�s mid-year report illustrates a solid growth in e-commerce usage as Visa Check Card sales on the Internet totaled eight-point-nine billion dollars for the first six months of 2003.
