Good news for frequent heartburn sufferers � the popular prescription medicine Prilosec is now available over the counter - as Prilosec OTC, the only medication of its type available without a prescription. One pill provides 24-hour relief by shutting down the release of acid at its source, eliminating heartburn.  Wal-Mart pharmacist Lori Mendoza says the 50 million Americans who suffer from heartburn more than twice a week, should ask their pharmacists if Prilosec OTC is right for them:

�Prilosec O-T-C is indicated for frequent heartburn, for those people who suffer two or more times a week, and it�s a great option for those people with frequent heartburn.  But, we do think that patients should come to pharmacists to consult them before taking the medication.�
