How much is too much worry? As part of Mental Health Awareness Day, May 5th has been designated National Anxiety Disorders Screening Day. Anxiety disorders affect 19 million Americans. The most common is Generalized Anxiety Disorder, or G-A-D. Symptoms include excessive restlessness, sleep and concentration difficulties, muscle tension, fatigue, and irritability. Doctor Andrew Farah, a specialist in anxiety disorders, says those who think they may suffer from Generalized Anxiety Disorder should get screened. G-A-D is highly treatable and new anti-anxiety drugs are available:
"The mainstay of therapy now for anxiety disorders is also the serotonin re-uptake inhibitors. Lexapro(R) is also being shown to be helpful in a variety of anxiety conditions."
