The remodeling industry has declared May National Home Improvement Month, and many Americans tackle projects themselves.  Studies show painting is one of the most popular do-it-yourself tasks. Ace Hardwares home improvement expert Lou Manfredini:

Many homeowners repaint at least one or two rooms each spring. Compared to spending money on new furnishings, painting is an easy, inexpensive way to update dcor and change a rooms look and feel. This year, bold colors like oranges and deep browns are in. The industry is offering new technology, as well. You know flat paints hide wall imperfections better, but until now, theyve been harder to clean. Ace Sensations is the first paint infused with Scotchgard protector. It resists stains like fingerprints, grease, lipstick and coffee and its even mildew resistant.

Manfredini says research reveals yard cleanup and garage organization also will dominate Americans home improvement this month.
