Summer heat and resulting peak energy use are quickly approaching. Meanwhile, skyrocketing energy costs, water shortages and memories of rolling blackouts leave many Americans searching for ways to not only save water and energy, but also to save some money. The good news is that there is a new way to do all of these things. Maytag Appliances and utility companies in select areas are offering rebates on select Maytag and Amana washing machines until July 15, 2004. Savings at the time of purchase can range from 50 dollars to 300 dollars and the annual energy cost savings can reach as much as 165 dollars, meaning that in some cases, a new washer will pay for itself in as little as three years. Maytag laundry expert Brett Oleson, calls the program a "win-win" for consumers:

"People who take advantage of the rebate get the satisfaction of saving energy, water and money while getting a great washer."

To receive the rebate, consumers need to purchase by July 15th. Call your local utility for more information.
