Its said that everything is bigger in Texas and the Texas State Quarter launch is no exception. Staged around the 35-foot-tall bronze Lone Star sculpture in front of the Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum in downtown Austin, the kick-off of the 28th commemorative quarter dollar of the popular 50 State Quarters Program is a larger-than-life Texas celebration with mariachis, free barbecue, free quarters for the kids, and Peter the Mint eagle. U.S. Mint Director Henrietta Holsman Fore:

"Well, its a simple, clear design and its a credit to the 50 State Quarter Program, it reflects the spirit of independence."

Governor Rick Perry chose the design from more than 26-hundred submissions. "The Lone Star State" is inscribed on the coins reverse side, which features a large star superimposed on the states outline.
