Following the decision by the U.S. Court of Appeals to uphold the settlement of the Microsoft case, many in the technology industry are hopeful that it's the end of the matter and that the tech industry can finally put this case behind it. Jim Prendergast of Americans for Technology Leadership says the decision is welcome news for American consumers:
"Independence Day has come early as this litigation has finally come to an end. Now the tech industry can get back to focusing on innovation instead of litigation. And that's great news for the consumer and certainly, for the economy. The only people disappointed today are a few Microsoft competitors who tried to use the courts to do what they failed to do in the market place. And now those same people have gone to European Union with the same complaints that the U.S. courts have just rejected. It's time for them to drop their obsession with litigation and get back to competing."
Prendergast says the approval of the consent decree should provide a tremendous boost to the technology industry.
