The nation's mayors are campaigning for cancer check-ups.  The United States Conference of Mayors is targeting those at risk for breast cancer, which kills some 40-thousand people annually, and prostate cancer, which is responsible for about 30-thousand deaths a year.  Both are treatable if diagnosed in their early stages, according to Fort Collins Mayor Ray Martinez:

"I think getting people in early for early diagnosis is making 'headway' in trying to stop the problem.  Every one of us has family or friends that have been victims of this disease."

At their annual meeting, the Conference of Mayors, along with the National Breast Cancer Awareness Month board of sponsors, the National Prostate Cancer Coalition and AstraZeneca, are encouraging men and women to get the facts about early detection.
