Challenging Americans to Create "Green Spaces" Outdoors

Spring has sprung and everyone is looking forward to enjoying the great outdoors. Keep America Beautiful is partnering with Scotts, the lawn and garden company, to challenge Americans to create community green spaces.  Creating and maintaining a healthy lawn and garden has many benefits.  Ray Empson, president of Keep America Beautiful:

"Working together on a community green space gives people a sense of accomplishment and provides a recreational area for residents to picnic, play games and enjoy.  But there are environmental benefits as well.  For instance, the average lawn surrounding eight homes has a cooling effect equal to 70 tons of air-conditioning.  And, a healthy lawn helps prevent erosion.  Green spaces beautify and positively impact the communities in which we live. We're encouraging people to create community gardens during Keep America Beautiful Great American Cleanup, but year-round as well."

For more information on how to create a green space in your community, visit, k-a-b-dot org or scotts-dot-com.
