The U.S.D.A. recently announced its new food pyramid, called My-Pyramid, which is customizable to Americans varied lifestyles.  However, with this change many are still left wondering how to get started on the road to good health.  In reality, says registered dietitian Roberta Larson Duyff, also a spokesperson for the Canned Food Alliance, healthful eating is much easier than many think:

Living a healthy lifestyle starts one step at a time with everyday food choices that are right for you.  For example, canned foods offer an easy way to get the recommended amount and variety of fruits and vegetable each day.  Canned foods are convenient, easy to use and infinitely versatile.  In fact, studies show they are as nutritious as their cooked fresh and frozen counterparts.

The new pyramid notes that canned foods are an easy way to get the recommended fruits, vegetable, and meats and beans.  For hundreds of healthful and easy-to-prepare recipes, along with the latest nutrition information, go to w-w-w-dot-mealtime-dot-org.
