Competition Offers up to $100,000 in Prizes, Encourages Submissions from Throughout the Financial Services Community

SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE via COLLEGIATE PRESSWIRE)--Sept. 15, 2005--The Financial Planning Association(R) (FPA(R)) and Janus Capital Group Inc. (NYSE: JNS) today announced the ''Financial Frontiers Awards'' -- a competition created to encourage research papers that showcase new ideas and practical solutions for helping financial advisers and their clients.

The Financial Frontiers Awards program, introduced at FPA`s annual conference in San Diego, is designed to promote serious research that expands the body of knowledge in wealth management and financial planning. Topics for research papers could include, but are not limited to, investments, practice management, retirement planning, general financial planning and trust and estate planning.

''We want to create a spirited competition that encourages the best thinkers in the field to share their latest research and thereby expand the frontiers of finance,'' said Rob Watson, managing director of Client Management for Janus Global Advisors, the company`s division dedicated to serving financial intermediaries.

The competition is open to all financial planners, investment consultants, registered representatives, registered investment advisers, bankers, accountants, educators, students, attorneys, and practitioners from the insurance field and trust and estate planning firms. Submissions also are welcome from financial advisers and management or support staff at financial services institutions, regardless of their size.

Janus will contribute up to $100,000 to fund the Financial Frontiers Awards. The winners of the three top, or gold, awards will each receive $20,000, while the three second-place, or silver, winners will each earn $10,000.

The research papers will be reviewed and evaluated by a panel of highly qualified judges assembled by FPA`s Journal of Financial Planning, which has access to the industry`s best researchers, writers and practitioners and expertise in managing its annual ''Call for Papers'' competition. Beginning in 2006, the Financial Frontiers Awards will replace the Call for Papers competition.

''This is a natural collaboration because both organizations specialize in key aspects of financial services,'' said FPA President-Elect Daniel B. Moisand, CFP(R). ''FPA is the community that advances the financial planning profession by cultivating the body of knowledge in personal financial planning. Meanwhile, Janus is well known for its long-standing commitment to conducting intensive fundamental research.

''As millions of baby boomers prepare for retirement, there`s a sea change taking place in the financial planning industry,'' Moisand said. ''By teaming with Janus, we hope to jump-start innovation and offer advisers a wealth of new ideas that can help their clients reach their financial goals.''

To submit a research paper for consideration, or to review the competition guidelines, please visit www.financialfrontiersawards.org. The deadline for submissions is January 15, 2006. Winners will be notified next June and honored at FPA`s 2006 annual conference.
